The governing body of the Maryland Green Party is the State Coordinating Council. The Council works through committees to implement policies established by the members at the annual Maryland Green Party Assembly. At the Assembly each May, officers are elected by the membership.
The Maryland Green Party first was recognized by the State Board of Elections on August 17, 2000. In December 2002, the Party was recertified, having submitted a valid petition to the State Board of Elections. The Party recognition will continue at least until December 2006.
