First recognized by the State Board of Elections in April 1999, the Libertarian Party of Maryland lost its official party status in November 2002. On June 30, 2004, the Party was recertified by the State Board of Elections, and will hold its designation until December 2006.

The Party is governed by the State Central Committee. Membership in the Committee is open to all dues-paying, registered party members who wish to serve. From this committee, the Executive Board is chosen and officers are selected at its annual spring meeting.
