The Governor created the State Data Security Committee in 1983 (Executive Order 01.01.1983.18). The Committee established computer security policies and standards for State government agencies in the Executive Branch. Regularly, the Committee evaluated and tested the security of computerized records systems of State agencies. For agency data security officers and information technology administrators, the Committee hosted an annual data security conference.

Nine data professionals within State service constituted the Committee. The representative of the Department of Budget and Management served as chair.

The Committee last met in 2005.
