CRIMINAL LAW ARTICLE REVIEW COMMITTEE

Started in 1998, the Criminal Law Article Review Committee revised the substantive provisions of Article 27, addressing crimes and related penalties. Revisions were completed for the 2002 legislative session and adopted (Chapter 26, Acts of 2002).

CRIMINAL PROCEDURE ARTICLE REVIEW COMMITTEE

The Criminal Procedures Article Review Committee was created in 1998 to review procedures now outlined in Article 27 that apply in criminal cases. These procedures cover arrests, trials, sentencing, criminal records, and forfeitures. The Committee also revised sections relating to the treatment of victims and witnesses.

With the adoption of the Criminal Procedure Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland, the Committee concluded its work in 2001 (Chapter 10, Acts of 2001).

The Election Law Article Review Committee began in 1998. Its revisions to the Elections Article (Art. 33) were adopted during the 2002 legislative session (Chapter 291, Acts of 2002).

In October 2002, the Housing Article Review Committee began its work. The Division I of the Housing and Community Development Article was introduced and passed in the 2005 legislative session (Chapter 26, Acts of 2005). Division II of that article was passed in the 2006 session (Chapter 63, Acts of 2006).

Formed in 1999, the Public Safety Article Review Committee revised laws governing the Department of State Police; the State Fire Marshal and the State Fire Prevention Commission; building codes; emergency management; explosives; firearms and fire safety; and the militia. Revisions to current laws were introduced in the 2003 legislative session and adopted by the General Assembly (Chapter 5, Acts of 2003).
